the recipes

I use this blog as a way to share the food that continues to shape my life, everyday. Over the years, I have changed my diet to heal from food allergies, digestive issues, inflammation, and other symptoms caused by Chronic Lyme Disease.  Additionally, I support my passion for sustainable living through my dietary choices, focussing on locally grown, seasonal organic produce whenever possible.  Food is the greatest tool we have in the healing process - mindful food choices give us the power to heal our bodies, heal the planet, and find community. 

Many of my recipes are suitable for individuals with multiple food allergies and intolerances, Lyme disease, Celiac disease, gluten intolerance, IBD, IBS, Crohn's Disease, various auto-immune diseases, or diabetes.  Many are acceptable or easily adapted to fit anti-Candida diet protocol, GAPS, Paleo, vegetarian, vegan, or raw diets. 

I avoid using refined flours, refined sugars and sweeteners, gluten-free "junk food", and other highly processed foods, preservatives, or additives. Instead, I focusing instead of a wide variety of natural, whole foods ingredients that are preferably organic, local, and seasonal.

Tweaks & Substitutions

Hate cumin?  Can't eat flax?  Just can't warm up to seaweed?

No problem. These recipes are intended to be a jumping off point for your own creativity. Don't be afraid to try things out and make changes as necessary to fit your tastes and restrictions.    I can't always guarantee the outcome of your changes, but in my mind, a well-educated substitution is always worth a shot.  Whenever possible, I make substitution suggestions in the recipe. Additionally, I'm working on a "substitution tips" page that you can reference whenever you want to make an ingredient swap.

It isn't just sustenance - the act of eating and sharing food a sensual, visceral, and community-building.  Just because you have restrictions doesn't mean you have to miss out on this!  Whether you have food allergies and intolerances, weak digestion, need to follow a diet for other medical reasons, or simply want to eat wholesome, unprocessed foods, I want to give you recipes that allow to find creativity in the kitchen, delight in eating, and lasting health-promoting results.
