Sweet or Savory Kitchen Challenge

Following a special diet - whether because of allergies or other conditions - can sometimes feel like an insurmountable challenge. As two people who’ve both been there (and are still there!), Ricki of Diet, Dessert and Dogs and I understand how important it is to find delicious, appealing recipes to keep you motivated and committed.  That’s why we’ve teamed up to offer the SOS (Sweet or Savory) Kitchen Challenge blog event!

The SOS Kitchen Challenge invites you to create delicious sweet or savory (or both!) dishes based on a key ingredient that we select. At the end of the month, we post a roundup on both our blogs, giving your recipe double the exposure and offering a one-stop shop for health conscious readers and cooks.

Help us showcase how tantalizing and delectable healthy foods can be!

What are we cooking with this month?

November 2011: Parsnips

How to Participate

  • Make a new recipe (yours or someone else's) using the key ingredient highlighted in our monthly kick-off post, following the rules listed below.
  • Post the recipe to your blog during the time of our challenge month - new recipe posts only please, do not recycle old posts. Please include the entire recipe in your blog post. If you are using someone else's recipe, please appropriately credit them.
  • Mention the SOS Kitchen Challenge in your post and link to the monthly reveal post or this page.  Feel free to use the SOS logo in your post to help promote the event (though this is not required).
  • Enter your recipe in the challenge using the Linky tool on the bottom of our monthly reveal post and other SOS recipe posts.  The Linky will display a thumbnail and a link to your blog, directing people to your site.  Pretty cool, right?

The Rules

  • Use only whole foods ingredients (minimally processed with no artificial flavors, colors, prepackaged sauces, etc.)
  • Use whole grains and whole grain flours only; no refined white flours or sugar (but either glutenous OR gluten-free flours are fine)
  • Recipes must be vegan (no animal products whatsoever, including meat, fish, chicken, milk, yogurt, eggs, honey) or include reliable vegan substitutes.
  • Use natural, minimally refined sweeteners only (no white sugar and nothing that requires a laboratory to create--such as splenda, aspartame, xylitol, etc.). Acceptable sweeteners would be maple syrup, agave nectar, brown rice syrup, coconut sugar, dates, yacon syrup, stevia, etc.
  • Recipes must be new recipes posted during the month of the event; please do not reuse previously posted recipes. You must include the recipe in the post, or clearly link to the source recipe and include your adaptations.
  • Have fun and let your creativity shine!

You may enter as many times as you like, but please submit a separate entry for each recipe.
